The residents of Grimes Avenue North enjoy a cook-out at Steve and Kenny's place. As tradition dictates, this was a "Minnesota Pot-luck" event which had everyone bringing something to share. Kenny and Steve on Flickr: Posted a Photo
Taken around noon, looking out from the living room into the front garden. Kenny and Steve on Flickr: Posted a Photo
Day Lily garden in the foreground. 18+ plants. Virtually everything you see returns year after year. The exceptions include yearly plantings in the 'buckets' to the left and right of center. Kenny and Steve on Flickr: Posted a Photo
The 'buckets' as we call them came from the estate of James and Virginia Binger. "Ginny" was the heiress of William McKnight's 3M fortune and was our friend. The wooden stands probably date from the 70's, and the flower boxes are contained in ornamental wrought iron. Kenny and Steve on Flickr: Posted a Photo
The hanging baskets in the background were a new addition this year. Kenny wanted to create some more heigth than the Japanese clumping lilac currently offers. Kenny and Steve on Flickr: Posted a Photo
From the front porch. There are two types of Clematis growing on the wrought iron, including a Polish cultivar. Kenny and Steve on Flickr: Posted a Photo
This is early spring. The Forsythia and Magnolia are in bloom but little else. Kenny and Steve on Flickr: Posted a Photo
Next year the lawn is likely to be torn out. We will install sprinkling for the sod, which will go down. We will install drip-line for each of the plants, rather than sprinking. This will save on water, which we will likely pull from our well, rather than the city. Kenny and Steve on Flickr: Posted a Photo
As noted elsewhere, the 'buckets' came from the estate of James and Virginia Binger, in Wayzata after both had passed away. The stands are wooden, the buckets are in ornamental wrought iron frames. |
